Suman Nathwani began her journey in 1987, pioneering the lingerie industry in India. Suman had a flare for fashion and style since she was a child. Her journey as a designer hit the road when her sister was getting married and she was unable to find the desired sleepwear for her. That is when drawing her inspiration from mills and boon which she loved to read as a teenager, webbed an entire wardrobe for her. There was no looking back after then and Suman realised she had to weave her career in this field.
She had no formal education in the field of fashion but yet her passion drove her towards building the fashion label Suman Nathwani. She was the first and till date the only designer designing luxury nightwear in the country. She has also had an active participation in Bridal Asia since 1990 to 2013. She is a preliminary member of Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) as well as showcased her collection at Lakme Fashion Week. Celebrities and known names like John Abraham, Celina Jaitley, Koena Mitra, Katrina Kaif, etc. have adorned her outfits all these years. The brand’s outfits have also been worn by film stars in a lot of movies like Amitabh Bachchan for Last Lear, Raima Sen for Choker Bali, Bipasha Basu for Sob Choritro Kalponik, etc.
Apart from being a designer, she has taken on the mantle of a counselor and has been counseling women since the last eight years for lingerie fitting. She has been a guiding point for women suffering from breast cancer. She has also tied up with TATA Memorial Centre which sends mastectomy patients to her for their lingerie counselling or silicone implanted lingeries.
Suman Nathwani, being a self-made designer, aims to convert this segment of designer lingerie and sleepwear into a full-fledged industry through both conventional and couture dimensions of new creations. She has been tirelessly working towards this goal for over three decades with as much enthusiasm as when she had just started.
